New CSW course
Educational Communication Support Worker Qualification
NATED are currently working with Signature and ACSW to develop a new, accredited qualification for ECSWs to help them develop these skills and enable them to support deaf learners' access to education.
The new qualification will include 4 main parts:
1. knowledge and understanding of signed and written forms of communication
2. understanding of deaf students' learning styles
3. professional issues surrounding supporting learners in the classroom
4. and the practical skills needed to support young deaf people with their education.
I-Sign Proposal for an initial training qualification called - Certificate in Learning Support (Communication Support Worker)[/b] is now available to view - http://www.signature.org.uk/page.php?content=90
The national consultation questionnaire is now also on the Signature website:-
http://www.signature.org.uk/isign/cswconsultation
The introductory section is being translated into BSL by remark! and the entire site will be ready for the on-line consultation to start on 1 Feb for 3 weeks. This is one week later than planned, due to the decision to make the information accessible to BSL users.
We hope that all NATED members will give their views of the new CSW qualification by reading the proposed course content and completing the questionnaire.
