CSW's to LSW's!!
Hi I recently heard that a college were, besides implimenting a whole host of questional changes, were also retitling their Csw's to Lsw's! Learning support workers. How shameful to devalue the specialised role they have within education. And just think about the many years of training that most csw's undertake. I wonder if there is any way of challenging this ludicrous situation.

I really hope this does not happen!!! I'm sure NATED & ACSW will fight this for us.

Thank you for your response Caz. But I'm afraid that it IS a part of the new term agenda. And the title change of CSW title IS going to be implimented in this particular establishment. Very very sad state of affairs!

CSW - LSW
Hi
The problem is the colleges can do what they like! They do not fully understand our roles. By changing the title a CSW as a LSW, they may also change the rate of pay in line with them. This has happened to me, although I have still kept my title. I fear that without the correct training and CPD, it gets harder to fight our corner.

Job Titles
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about this as it is up to individual colleges as to how they define their job roles. The main concern is that specialist support staff are being put with generic support staff and being paid similarly. Unfortunately it's something that we have to keep educating people about and informing employers of the many differences between the roles. I hope with the new CSW course and the new support staff training that the distinction will become clearer.
