This is from LSIS:

Communication support for Deaf/deaf/hearing-impaired project:- A Call for Evidence

LSIS with support from the Skills Funding Agency and key partners/sector agencies have started work on the above project. This will culminate in a conference on 19th of January 2011 in London. A conference led by learners. Competence in communication skills with deaf people promotes inclusion, educational development and economic activity. This includes those with the full range of hearing loss, including those whose first or preferred language is British Sign Language (BSL) and those who use spoken English and rely on lip-reading.

There is some evidence that there is a lack of communication support capacity in education providers, and a lack of affordable training for staff. Key stakeholders believe that a major reason for this is the quality of communication support Deaf/deaf and hearing impaired learners receive in learning. They believe that there is good practice out there, but that it is not consistently understood or implemented.

We need your help! Please see attached document – A Call for Evidence on how you could support us with this project. We are very keen to collate examples of effective practice, gather some case studies, hear about your practice and more… The information we gather will be placed on the Excellence Gateway.
