CSW Rates of pay
CSW rates of pay vary considerably around the country.
This is a hot topic. CSW pay should dovetail in with Interpreters rates of pay, but unfortunately, interpreters do not have a recognised pay structure, and many well known and qualified interpreters are charging less than some CSWs.
At the moment, CSWs and Interpreters are free to charge what they feel is reasonable, or what services allow, which leaves Deaf people with confusion.
There should be guidelines, so a questionnaire is proposed to take a survey of CSW's rates nationally, so that an assessment can be made and recommendations be drawn up.
Look out for the questionnaire.

CSw rate of pay
From Linda Sharpe posted on the old forum:-
There is no nationally agreed pay rates for CSWs - only recommendations. College HRs are never sure what rate to pay CSWs because they don't easily fit into their categories of 'teaching' or 'support' - they are a sort of middle category. It seems that most colleges do their own thing in terms of pay scales and you need to negotiate - this leads to a real variation in rates of pay. You could download the CSW Code of Practice from the NATED website and use that to help you negotiate CSW pay.
A college I know pays CSW's £13.80ish per hour, however their work is term time only and some are part time. They stretch the CSW's actual salary so a lesser amount is paid over 12 months so the CSW doesn't go through a summer with no money coming in. Another college fairly close pays around £10 per hour, but the CSW is employed throughout the year. This doesn't help much but does illustrate what a confusing position it is for CSWs. How do other colleges manage?

Hi one good way of finding out the average rate of pay. Is joining deafjobs uk. They advertise all sorts of deaf support related jobs and you will be able to see for yourself the differing rates that are paid throughtout the country. deafjobs uk generally post jobs on the web once a week. Its a very useful service.

Re: CSW Rates of pay
How is this for pay confusion...and annoyance. One college in Scotland pays CSWs salaries of £18,793-£22,518, whereas another pays £36,980. Job description is exactly the same but because the colleges are in 2 different regions unions can't do anything!!
Guess which one I work in??!!
