2pm Workshops Session 1
Voice-over workshop 1. This is a hot topic for CSWs, who are expected to voice-over without having received any formal training. This workshop is distilled from a series of well received one-day training events and will present theories and practical methods for better and more confident voice-over. Essential for CSWs.

Jill Newlands, MRSLI (ACSW Rep, South Midlands)
Voice-over workshop 2: To swear or not to swear. Whenever the issue of swearing in the course of voice-over is discussed there is hot debate. This workshop will present an alternative view to the norm and contend that CSWs should think carefully before an expletive is voiced. Come with an open mind.

Andy Owen MRSLI
Code of Ethics: A new view. This workshop contends that a new Code of Ethics is required; one that will encompass interpreters and CSWs. Key to the concept is developing an ethical way of thinking. This workshop has been delivered to Leeds University interpreting students with great success. Very thought provoking.

Jason Bell MRSLI
International Sign Language. Many CSWs work with students who have recently arrived in this country and do not know BSL. An understanding of international sign language will aid this and other scenarios, and will inform the work of CSWs and help them ‘think outside the box’ in a more visual way. Essential.

Gavin Lilley
The mentoring role of CSWs: Deaf teenagers and the police. CSWs have contact with many Deaf teenagers in 6th form and FE colleges who have varying relationships with the law. This workshop will inform CSWs and provide material for discussion within the teenage Deaf community. Not to be missed.

Sergeant Glen Barham MBE (Hampshire Constabulary. Responsible for setting up the recent 999 SMS service)

3pm Tea/coffee break
3.15 Workshops Session 2. As above, delegates swap around.
4.15 Wrap-up, feedback forms and close.
